The goal with red herring is to sway you away from the main argument or topic. The theory of fallacy classification by Damer (2009) was employed in this research. The data are utterences containing logical fallacies and the source of the data is the transcripts of four debate videos. especially by one of the presidential candidates, Prabowo Subianto, during 2019 Indonesian presidential debates. When a politician says that people are too fat to get out and vote, he distracts his audience from a legitimate question over. Therefore, this study attempted to find the types of logical fallacies on Indonesian presidential debates committed. However, the study is still rarely concerned with presidential debates in Eastern countries particularly Indonesia. There have been a considerable number of studies of fallacy concerning with presidential debates in Western countries particularly on American presidential debates. A red herring fallacy uses a parallel or seemingly relevant argument to distract from the original point being discussed. This article examines the types of fallacies in political staements by presenting actual cases as illustrations. The Red Herring fallacy is a kind of distraction whereby someone wishing to oppose some conclusion produces and tears down not just a weaker distorted version. As such, it is commonplace in a wide variety of situations, such as political debates, journalism, and debates on any controversial topics. Many political statements commit the fallacy of composition, shifting the distributive understanding to collective understanding. Straw man argument, or straw man fallacy, is a type of logical fallacy that occurs when someone deliberately distorts or misrepresents their opponent’s position to make it easier to defeat. That is why many political statements are irrational (argumentum ad populum), having no consistency between the premise and the conclusion.

Because a wide segment of society becomes special target, with their different levels of education and understanding, the logical aspects are considered unimportant and subject to elimination. This importance factor becomes basic consideration in the formulation of a political statement in such a manner that it can influence public emotion and feeling producing desired agreement and response from the public.
Each political formula in the form of a statement (argument) always has a direct interconnected political purpose relative to an important group.
